Ethos

ethos

In St. Mary's PS we aim to provide a happy, caring and stimulating environment in which all children will achieve their potential and experience success in their learning and development.

Our school is based on the principles of child-centred education. The culture of our school is reflected in the commitment of Staff, Parents and Governors to the well-being and development of all our pupils.

While striving for academic excellence, we also recognise each child as a unique individual with not only academic but also spiritual & moral, physical, and social and emotional needs. We aim to develop each child's full potential as a member of society and believe that children learn best when they are happy.

We aim to reach into our community and to educate our children in a spirit of understanding and respect. We believe our distinctive Catholic ethos better prepares our children for a rapidly changing world. We fully recognise that an active and meaningful partnership between school, parents and parish is essential to our school's success.

The Governors and Staff of St. Mary's PS believe the school to be a vital part of the Catholic community. We are firmly committed to:

  • The aims of Catholic education;
  • Providing effective education for all our children;
  • Developing positive effective pastoral care systems in our school;
  • Establishing close links with the home, with the Donaghmore Parish and the wider community.

A strong pastoral care system is evident in the care and values that pervade the whole life of the school. St. Mary's PS is a caring school, permeated by a strong Catholic ethos and one where the whole community shares in a common goal, that is, to develop each child to the best of his/her ability and to develop in them a positive approach to learning.

The school presents as a happy learning/working environment for staff, pupils and indeed all members of the community.

Please do call in to see us as the true ethos of our school can only be fully experienced through a personal visit.
