BASKETBALL - THE CHRISTOPHER COLHOUN MEMORIAL CUP
On Wednesday, the 14th of March, our school basketball team travelled the short distance to the Torrent to play in the 5th annual Basketball tournament hosted by St.Patrick's P.S Donaghmore. This year the competition had an extra special meaning, as due to the sad passing of Vice Principal and Primary 4 teacher Mr.Calhoun, St. Patrick's Donaghmore had renamed the cup in memory of Mr.Calhoun, to recognise his love for the game and what a truly great sportsman and role model he was. The Basketball team performed brilliantly throughout winning all 3 of their group games including beaten last years winner's St.Patrick's Roan, who beat St.Mary's after extra time in the final. We topped the group and went on to beat Windmill Primary in the semi final. The final pitted our 'Talented' St.Mary's team against an 'Excellent' Donaghmore side. One of thing was for sure, the cup was staying in the Parish. We showed our skill early on, taking the lead, but Donaghmore battled hard and put in a performance that Mr.Calhoun himself would have been extremely proud of, scoring the winner late in the game to make sure the first ever 'Christopher Calhoun Memorial cup' was staying with the host school. A big Congrats to St.Patick's Donaghmore for winning and to Mr.Harte hosting the tournament. Mr.Mckinless and the rest of the staff, are extremely proud of the children who represented our school for their behaviour and teamwork they showed throughout the day. We are looking forward to competing again next year already.
