CARLAND CRANE LAUNCH
On Friday 12th May, our school marked a special event in the history of Carland - the launch of the crane.
In its heyday 150 skilled workers and craftsmen worked in Carland Quarry lifting and cutting stone for a host of prestigious buildings all over Ireland. Fine local examples are our school, St. Patrick's Churches in Donaghmore and Dungannon, St. Anne's Church, Northern Bank in Dungannon and Howard's Terrace, Dungannon.
In 2014 Carland Community Group were successful in securing funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and set about restoring the crane to its former glory. It now sits pride of place in the Carland community at the Gables Restaurant.
P1-P7 children all visited the crane and designed work for the beautiful display that was greatly admired at the launch.
Many thanks to the representatives from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Sharon Mc Aleer (Deputy Chair of Mid Ulster Council) and the members of Carland Community Group who were present at the launch.
